Wraxall Boardwalk

Studio MAY achieved planning for a Boardwalk to be built at Lower Wraxall, connecting the Stirling Prize Shortlisted Wraxall Yard to the River Frome. This allows wheelchair users to access the River Frome and the surrounding AONB directly and independently from their rooms.
The site sits within an AONB as well as an SSSI and the application negotiated various complex ecological constraints to deliver a design that satisfied the Dorset Council’s stringent Ecology Team.
Nestled into the existing landscape and within no changes to the local topography, the boardwalk allows access to an AONB which would otherwise be inaccessible.
